Safety Eye, an eye on safety perception in aviation
Safemode is a 42-month H2020 project aimed at developing an innovative Human Risk Informed Design (HURID) framework to systematically collect and assess Human Factors data, supporting risk-based design across the aviation and maritime sectors. As part of the project, a dedicated app was created to easily distribute safety-perception questionnaires to aviation personnel in European airports — including pilots, cabin crew, air traffic controllers, flight dispatchers, and ground crew — to gather valuable insights on safety. The work was carried out for a major international organization in air traffic management safety, whose name and the UX research process cannot be disclosed for privacy reasons.

User Research
We started the project by doing a remote focus group and several meetings to investigate expectations and envisionign about this tool. Our client had a clear idea of the final outcome but we wanted to be sure to capture the need and contextual conditions of use of the users. Unfortunaly we were not allowed to conduct research with all the future users. We were not able to get in contact with aviation staff but we worked closely with the adopters who will use the app to submit the questionnaire.
